Summary- creating training video files

All,

I got a lot of very quick and good feedback on the type of training
video files to use. By far the top 4 choices are:

CamStudio (free)
5 REPLIES 5

I will put out a little warning on the Free CamStudio. It is pretty
cool, and does work. However there are a couple things we have found.
1. The file sizes are huge. Real huge. 2. If you are recording a
tutuorial for someone, if it is any longer than 3 or 4 minutes, the
sound starts to lag behind. We had someone spend a day recording some
1/2 hour training vids. When we went to watch them, once you got about
5 minutes into it, the audio started to lag, and soon the audio
instructions were 30 seconds behind the screen picks. Could be caused
by pausing the recording. But lets face it, you are going to pause when
recording anything over 5 or ten minutes length.

I'd echo Mark's comments: in the pastI used CamStudio for many short training videos, but got caught out with the technical issues on longer movies.

CamStudio is fine for 1 or 2 minute blasts, but I've since "upgraded" to Camtasia, it really is worth paying for if you want to do a proper job... plus there are many more options with the output formats, etc.

anyone comment on using Jing? Jing is opensource from the makers of camtasia

I have been using Jing for the last month or so. Great for static screen shots. Movies are limited to 5 minutes, but you can get a lot done in 5 minutes in most cases. You can save the files to your local machine or upload them to their server for sharing to others. Or just copy and paste them into a document.

I have been creating some best practice documents with them and the workflow is smooth and easy. There is also some markup capability, adding text or arrows, or boxes. I would recommend it.

I've used the free Jing Project software and its excellent. You can create up to a 5 min long flash video with sound with the free product.
