Vuforia Expert Capture Integration with Vuforia studio and thing Worx

Hello Team,

I want to know one doubt whether it can be possible or not. If possible, how?

in Vuforia studio I created an assembly instruction of a machine in model target experience with animation sequence now that  experience I am viewing from HoloLens while i am doing assembly instruction after placing the 1st component the VEC should check that model whether it is placed correct or not if its correct then it should proceed to next step if it's wrong it should not proceed to next step like this i want in every step to check the component whether i paced it correctly or not through VEC. Will it is possible through integration of Vuforia studio with Vuforia Expert Capture.

There is no direct integration  between Vuforia Studio and Vuforia Expert Capture.

VEC currently does not support State Based Model Targets.

VEC does provide an API which you can make use of in ThingWorx. But this API does not provide editing or creating procedures. See https://support.ptc.com/help/vuforia/editor/en/#page/vuforia_editor%2Faccess_data_with_APIs_oview.html%23

Can anyone Elaborate clearly This point VEC does provide an API which you can make use of in Thing Worx. But this API does not provide editing or creating procedures.

And also, please let me know which kind of target is suitable in VEC to do Inspection in step-by-step assembly process. What kind of license to be procured to work on the VEC where I want able to capture and load into Vuforia editor and publish that project and want to open in Vuforia vantage to do inspection and also to check the data in Vuforia insights.

1. VEC API:

Vuforia Expert Capture (VEC) provides an API that can be used in ThingWorx to access and integrate procedure data. However, these APIs are read-only when it comes to procedures. This means you can retrieve and display procedure data in ThingWorx, but you cannot create or edit procedures through the API.

For example, you can pull step-by-step guidance data from VEC into a ThingWorx dashboard, but any modifications or new procedure creation must be done directly within the Vuforia Editor.

2. Suitable Targets for Step-by-Step Assembly Inspection:

For step-by-step assembly inspections, the ideal target type depends on the environment and the objects being worked on. The two primary target types in VEC are:

  • Model Targets: Best for recognizing and tracking specific 3D objects, such as machinery, tools, or components, without requiring markers.

  • Area Targets: Ideal for larger environments, such as a factory floor or workstation, where the entire space is used as a reference.

3. Area Targets in Vuforia Expert Capture

Area Targets are particularly useful when:

  • The inspection process requires workers to move through a specific workspace with precise guidance.

  • The environment itself plays a role in the process, such as ensuring steps are executed in the correct locations.

Vuforia uses LiDAR scans from devices like HoloLens or iPhone Pro to create Area Targets. These allow workers to align their actions with real-world references and follow procedures accurately.

You can get detailed information in Vuforia Expert Capture Help Center: https://support.ptc.com/help//vuforia/editor/en/index.html

4. Licensing

  • Licenses can be purchased directly from PTC or through authorized resellers.

  • Customers and partners work with PTC sales representatives to tailor their/their customer's subscription package.

  • There are three different user types to be licensed:
    - Authors, Administrators, Managers
    - Viewer (no creation or modification of content)
    - Device (no creation or modification of content), can be used by several employees.

how about can I go with Vuforia engine for assembly instruction and also to do step check and also, I can integrate with thing Worx in Vuforia engine. can someone help me how to do this and make step check possible in Vuforia engine. If possible, can share the relevant document of how to enable step check in Vuforia engine.

For clarification:

  • Vuforia Engine provides the core SDK, enabling developers to build custom AR applications with advanced computer vision capabilities.
  • Vuforia Studio is a rapid authoring tool that simplifies AR experience creation, particularly for industrial use cases, by leveraging existing 3D and IoT data.
  • Vuforia Expert Capture focuses on knowledge transfer, allowing experts to easily record and share procedural information as AR-guided instructions.

In essence, Engine is for building from the ground up, while Studio and Expert Capture are pre-built solutions that solve specific industrial problems.

To get started with Vuforia Engine please visit: https://developer.vuforia.com/home

This is a really large but also exciting topic area outside of this community. Of course, this also gives you extensive options for using APIs from other applications - including ThingWorx, of course.
