Managing document relationships to parts and the engineering BOM

Description:

The purpose of this group will be to discuss challenges and areas for improvement as it relates to the various aspects of creating and maintaining the connection of content (CAD, Dynamic and Documents) to parts and bills of material in Windchill.  Topics for discussion will include customer use cases and needs for relating documents to parts, associating CAD to Parts for the purposes of passing attributes, representations and driving the creation of their engineering bill-of-material using both bottom-up and top-down, or part centric, methodologies.

Group members must be willing to actively participate with the group, as follows:

  • Share their working practices and experiences
  • Define and capture use cases and requirements, along with expressing its business value
  • Evaluate and provide feedback on potential solution ideas

Family Tables and the Model-Based Enterprise

Status:  Open-currently looking for volunteers.

Working Group Leader – Ryan Gelotte (RyanG)

Description and Objective – Identify all of the challenges that come with Family Tables when trying to implement the Model-Based Enterprise versus documenting Families on a 2D drawing.  Theses challenges include but are not limited to documenting Families using MBD practices which are significantly different than using a single tabulated drawing, managing changes to each part, how to handle derivatives of the Family Table models, etc.

Deliverable – White paper, Creo roadmap

Duration – 6 months - 1 year, start asap

Working Group intended participant profile, max size – Participants would have a good understanding of current company processes for using Family and how their company manages them in Windchill today. Participants would also need to understand how the Family Table instances are related to the “Parts” that they define and how changes to both the Part and the Family Tables are managed.

Group Size 12 maximum

Embedded Component Use Cases

Focus Group for Embedded Component Use Cases in Creo

This focus group is to collaborate with PTC on the development of selected key “multi-body” projects for Creo 5.0 & 6.0.  During the discussion, PTC will work with the group to define requirements, review specification and implementation.

Focus areas relate to the following embedded component use cases planned for implementation in Creo 5.0 and beyond, such as:

  • Inseparable Assemblies (purchased components) – targeted for Creo 5.0
  • Sheet metal and regular parts with inserted HW (PEMs, weld nuts, rivet nuts, etc) – researched in Creo 5.0

Participants should be experienced Creo Parametric users that are currently dealing with work arounds for these use cases. Participants should also be willing to provide example models and additional documentation to illustrate their use cases and requirements.

The group will provide feedback during implementation and verify that the targeted use cases have been addressed. The group will also detail out gaps that still exist.

Deliverables:

Use cases as well as white papers that can be leveraged to improve the capability in the software focused on embedded components.  The group will produce a whitepaper with use case descriptions and related requirements, provide example models, provide feedback during implementation and verify that the targeted use cases have been addressed and detail out gaps that still exist.

Working Group Duration: 24 months

Working Group Max Size: 20

Group Leader: Martin Neumueller, PTC

Creo Solid Welds

The team will work with the PTC PM to continue improvements to the solid weld capability.

Participates should be existing Creo Parametric 3.0 users that are interested in created solid welds in their models.

Sheet Metal experience would be a plus.  In addition, members must have installed and run Creo 4.0, and have used the solid weld functionality.

Deliverables: Use cases as well as white papers that can be leveraged to improve the capability in the software.  Some material was already generated by the TCs.  The Working Group will produce a whitepaper and use cases, verifying that all use cases have been addressed and detailing any gaps that still exist.

Working Group Duration: 12 months

Working Group Max Size: 20

Group Leader: Moe Mastrapasqua, Raytheon

Multi-User Creo Schematics

Virtual Interconnect, a PTC Partner, will develop a Multi-User Experience for Creo Schematics.  This approach was agreed to by PTC, Vertual Interconnect, and the Routed Systems Technical Committe at the June 2016 Technical Committee meetings.

Participants should be existing Creo Schematics 2.0 / 3.0 users that are interested in creating a Multi-User experience that they would plan to deploy within their company.

WTPart to Document (CAD and WT) relationship enhancements

Work to improve the toolset for how document to WTPart relationships are managed. Currently there are a number of inconsistencies and limitations in the tools, these are detailed on a number of Product I-Deas I have already submitted:

https://www.ptcusercommunity.com/ideas/7332

https://www.ptcusercommunity.com/ideas/4134

https://www.ptcusercommunity.com/ideas/7081

https://www.ptcusercommunity.com/ideas/7131

Deliveralbes: Functionality requirements and use cases for how the WTPart to WTDocument and EPMDocument relationships should function and be maintained in the user interface.

Working Group Duration: 1 year

Working Group Participant Profile:

Any customer that is actively using Windchill for configuration management with WTParts and associating/linking Documents to them could participate. The group should ideally include a mix of users who use Windchill with WTDocuments and EPMDocuments (CAD) with relationships to WTParts with preferential membership giving to any customers that are using both EPM and WT Documents. Requiring members to be actively using WTPart to EPMDocument associations will immediately limit the group size to manageable number of experienced customers.

Re: Working Groups - What you need to know

Hello @Tmetcalf , In previous version there is a group called Automation & Customization found in the Creo. Now it not found & the contents of that group moved now to Additional Creo Questions. It would be better if there is a group for Automation for Creo Toolkit, J-Link & VB API Tools. Thank you
