Decrease Windchill Method Server Time

Hi,

When windchill starts, it takes some time to initialize ServerManager, BackgroundMethodServer and MethodServer. So, in that after initialization, Method server shows 'MethodServer ready (in 432.07 secs)' time to start the complete windchill, So I just want to know can we decrease this time. Please, could anyone help me in that.

Thank You

Sumit Patil

I think this is largely a function of your server hardware.  Faster processors, hard drives, and ram will all help improve this.

What are your server specs?

CPU

# of cores

chip speed

RAM

My Windchill and Oracle servers have 2 hex-core 2.8Ghz processors, hyperthreading disabled and 36GB of memory.

One method server starts up in 71 secs, the second in 126 secs.

How often do you reboot your Windchill and Oracle servers? Mine get rebooted daily.

Similar to Ben here. Windchill and oracle get restarted daily in the evening (for backup) however not the zone they are running on.

My server specs (which run much more than just Windchill and Oracle):

  • Oracle Corporation Sun Server X4-2L (2 X Ten-Core Hyper-Threaded Intel(R) Xeon(R) E5-2690 v2 @ 3.00GHz P1)
  • 512GB ram
  • Solaris 11.2

Last night's shutdown and restart:

  • Method Server 1 started in 62.386 secs
  • Method Server 2 started in 55.19 secs
  • Background Method Server started in 29.856 secs

Like Tom says Windchill startup is highly dependent on your hardware capabilities.

Hi,

Thank you all for your prompt responses,

This is my Laptop configuration:

Processor : AMD A8-7410 APU with AMD Radeon R5 Graphics(4 CPUs), ~2.2GHz

Memory    : 12GB RAM

I reboot my windchill daily and My method server takes about 130.00 secs to sometimes 430.00 secs for initialization.

Thank you
