Ability to Rename a Workspace

Ability to Rename a Workspace

Dear PTC Team,

I just wanted to rename a workspace I use for a project because the keywords of the project have changed.

But then I found out that renaming a workspace is not supported. However I can edit some other details of the workspace.

So how about being able to rename a workspace? That would be nice!

I am not sure it is a good idea to allow renaming them and might be why you cannot. We have found that using the same workspace over long periods that things get buggy. Also users will accumulate data in them that they are no longer using, but never bother to clean out. By allowing renaming they would tend to keep re-using the same workspace for multiple projects/orders/jobs. By disallowing renaming it forces them to create a new workspace and clear out the old one.
Maybe instead of renaming them, you could accomplish the same thing as your goal by being able to copy and paste items in one workspace to another with your new project name.

Renaming the workspace may also be affect the files which are in the cache folder .

Good point. PTC's motivation to not allow it might be what it would (or would not) do to the folder structure in the local cache and the VFS. If the copy and paste would work, then it could re-download the files to a new cache with the new name.
