Ability to Request Access to Objects

Ability to Request Access to Objects

We often run into issues where someone sends a link to people to review.

Sometimes the person isn't on the team yet, and the system rightfully prevents them from accessing the object.

However, when they don't have access they are given a cryptic message with a link to the errors and "Contact your administrator".

So they contact us and we have to go figure out what they were trying to access.

Maybe they don't have a Windchill account, maybe they're not on the team, or maybe it's another folder level permission someone set up, or the object got deleted.

The error should be clear, see also: More descriptive error messages

It would be nice if it would allow you to "Request Access" in an automated email to the given document and that request sent to a specific role on the team.

I would say Product Manager, but we're not using that role for team management, so it would be preferred to be able to select the role as well.

SharePoint 2013 already has this kind of functionality for requesting access.

Ideally the system would automatically add the person as part of some approval workflow, but even if it was done manually the request notification would be beneficial instead of defaulting to the highest authority with almost no useful information.
