I would like to be able to set the state of a new part that has not been checked in to common space yet.

Having to check an object in before setting the state is a backwords thought process.

Also, by having to check in the object first, there is a chance that the user will forget to set the state at all; which could create various problems down the line with promotion requests and such.

We encountered the same problem, especially after migrating from IL3.4, where this was possible.

Our solution was a trigger, which automatically sets the state to 'In Work' after check-in.
