We have completed a Windchill-Agile integration for our CAD files. This demanded some custom new attributes to be created for the CAD documents to show Agile related information, such as Part Number and Change Order number. Unfortunately, once a value is assigned it can only be edited or cleared manually, meaning, each time an engineer completes a Save As of CAD objects in Windchill, the new copies inherited all the Agile values from the original files, requiring him/her to manually clear those attributes for each files. Within our fast design pace, engineering do create many new copies all the time, some of very large assemblies. Clearing those attributes manually takes time but if forgotten, also cause problems down the road when they try to process those same new files with the Agile integration.
4. What is the use case for your organization?
Custom CAD related attributes should be configurable to allow values to be either copied over or not during Save As action based on specified setting.
5. What business value would your suggestion represent for your organization?
Pretty substantial as it would:
- Remove numerous steps from the process and increase ease of use
- Remove support calls for assistance when user is facing issues with the Agile integration because they did not clear those attributes during Save As action.
