I would like the ability to edit the references of a CAD file (drawing, assembly, etc) in Windchill such that when it opens it has replaced the content. Users frequently create duplicate data (WC facilitates it very well with the SaveAs) and that data gets used in assemblies and drawings erroneously. If you try to delete that duplicate data you cannot becuase it is used/referenced somewhere (in the assembly/drawing)
If PTC added the abilty to edit the refereces (a replace reference function), then I could replace the references to the duplicate data and then delete it. This would need to be an adminstrative function as it would be editting previous versions of objects without creating an iteration.
If this idea creates too much risk in corrupting the output of a locked/released record, then at least lets us create broken references. Allow me to delete the duplicate part and leave a broken reference on the drawing or asembly. The latest version can be revised to use the correct part and the history would still show a reference to a deleted record, but would open with it missing.
