In a WTPart BOM using several WTPart sub-type with different attribute list we should be able to search for all WTPart that have a component with a specific value.
Example 1 :
The clock BOM contains a dial and two hands. Clock, Dial and Hand are WTPart sub-types. The types Dial and Hand have the attribute "Luminescent material".
We want to search for all clocks that have a component where "Luminescent material" is Tritium.
We want to have the result ready in standard search result.
Example 2 :
We want to search for all WTPart connected to a EPMDocument where the number contains *_1234_*.
Note: This topic can be solved using calculated attribute for specific and known cases. But it's impossible to generalize it to all sub-type, all attributes and all relations.
We have introduced the new "Related Object Search" feature in 11.0. An administrator will be able to build report templates and expose them on the advance search page. An end user can execute a search that includes the criteria from the report template.
We can build report templates for both the scenarios mentioned in this idea.
Example 1: Search for a parent part based on the attributes of a child part
Example 2: Search for an object based on an attribute of a related object

This is now available in Windchill 11.0 F000 -
Happy to see that this functionallities have been implemented.
After reading Vikram's comment on idea 6561, we will sertainly open some new ideas and talk about this at TC's.
The major limitation I can see are :
The new related object search will work only if you are searching for one object type (Example 1 above can't be covered due to this restriction).
The query builder reports has to be developped by an administrator.
And to be tested :
The ability to perform multi level search and to define BOM usage (view, validity date, latest, ...).
