Add Font size options for UWGM embedded chromium browser

Add Font size options for UWGM embedded chromium browser

1. Describe your environment: What is your industry? What is your role in your organization? Describe your stakeholders.
My company is a Manufacturing Company, I am a "Project Optimization Engineer PLM" but for you I am a Windchill Administrator and Customizer. My stakeholders are the Windchill and CAD users, many departments of the company.

2. What version of Windchill are you currently running?
Windchill 12.0.2.2

3. Describe the problem you are trying to solve. Please include detailed documentation such as screenshots, images or video.
I would like the persistent custom font size in the embedded chromium browser of Windchill Workgroup Manager.

4. What is the use case for your organization?
Some users with poor eyesight have difficulties with the default Font Size.

5. What business value would your suggestion represent for your organization?
Better is the vision better is the quality of the work.

We recently upgraded from 11.1 M020 CPS17 to 12.0.2.2 and we noticed this regression:

ctrl + and ctrl - are not persistent through the Windchill page, Font size is restored to the default size for every page or refresh.

I opened the case C16195725  after that I saw the article CS31975 but ptc asked to me to create a product Idea:

With regards to this request, please note that this not part of Modeling nor Workgroup Manager functionalities. I can understand your concern about this functionality, It'd be practical for use to be integrated but there is no support to add or access Chromium plug-ins, settings or flags inside the Chromium embedded browser.
You can request this functionality by referring to Product Ideas @ PTC Community, just send me afterward the idea Id for voting.

Then I'm creating the idea.

Regards

Nicola

Hello,
Thank you for your idea and the information provided.

Under the argument that this will improve end user experience for people with poor eyesight it may even be argued that PTC has an obligation towards all of their users and not just those with good vision. The persistant zoom function was available with ie_browser and since later releases of the WGM no longer gives an option to use anything but chromium this becomes even more pressing than before. I have asked people in my network to add their weight onto this request and hope that this will get it some traction.

"With regards to this request, please note that this not part of Modeling nor Workgroup Manager functionalities. I can understand your concern about this functionality,"
But there really should be functionalities to adapt the size/scale of the interface, different users have different scaling on windows which in some cases give entirely unreadable interfaces. And others just need bigger font sizes. I agree with benosroas that its a potential work environment health issue.

The issue is not with the font size. Issue is that when You use CTRL + "-" to zoom out is should store that setting. Not resetting it after refreshing the page. For some users it's working perfectly fine (not resetting the scale) but for most of the users it's resetting.

I've checked all the setting in High DPI settings (Application, System, System Enhanced), nothing seems to be working for users with WGM installation that not store the scale from the beginning.

So from my point of view it can be solved with current version without a new functionality. You just need to sort out what is the cause of this.

It would be clear if it not store the scale setting for all of the users, but it's still working as it should for some.

@enystrom provided me with a solution (or in reality a workaround), but I've been waiting for him to post a reply and get the appropriate credit for it.

The steps to fix differ slightly if you're using Creo or WGM towards other CAD systems but the gist is the same.

Creo:

Edit Properties for "C:\PTC\Creo\Platform\9\zbcefr.exe"
Step into the "Compatibility" tab and under "Change high DPI settings" set "Override DPI" for "System".

WGM + other CAD:

Locate uwgm_client.exe (i.e "C:\Program Files\PTC\wgm\x86e_win64\obj\uwgm_client.exe") and perform the same steps there.

This seems to have fixed the issues with small, unreadable text at least for us.

I'd have preferred that this came from the source so that kudos could have been granted appropriately.

It's not working for almost all users in my organization. We don't have problem with small, unreadable text. We have problem with scale not stored permanently. You can zoom out or in but it will reset to default after refresh or getting into any link.

Even here I didn't found anything useful:
