Add an ACL to allow a team role to re-assign assignments

Add an ACL to allow a team role to re-assign assignments

Via a support call to PTC, I was informed that the 'The permission for Reassign task/ Work item is hardcoded in WorkItemAdminActionsValidator.java. This action is only allowed for owners and Admins. There is no way to achieve this from Policy Administrator.'

Per my company's business practice, I want the people assigned to roles ‘Change Manager’ and ‘Team Leader’ to be able to reassign assignments. I don’t want to give the users in these roles to administrator privileges. It also is redundent to assign the users to descrete roles and to the 'Product Manager' role.

The abitlty to re-assign is basic functionality and the permission should be controlled via the ACL.

Thanks! Kathy

Interresting idea.

this need is also found in PDMLink 10.0 with our customer.

We have also been asking for this permissions.  We used to be able to assign the permissions (back in Version 6.2) by adding the user to the Workflow Administrators or the Lifecycle Administrators group.  But V9 changed such that we could no longer use that methodology.  We will be looking at adding a customization to allow our users to do this since we really do not want to make them Product Managers.

This actually already exists - almost.  Set the Modify permission to the "Team" object.  There are four needed actions and this provldes 3 of them.  Need to be admin or Manager of the context to get the fourth.

Add Role (not provided with Modify Team permission)

Remove Role

Add Participant

Remove Participant

I agree a definite requirement for us - Product Manager is far too powerful (and deny doesnt work for important functions eg 'Set State', 'Edit Team' etc).

I know this thread is out of date, but I wanted to pile on and agree that something more needs to be done to grant these types of authorities to user groups/individuals without having to grant additional authorities.  This appears to be causing many work-arounds and customizations to do what should be OOTB.

Like users above, we want some users to have the ability to reassign task for people who are on vacation etc., but do not want them to have all the authorities of a Product Manager.

Does anybody know if something has happened about the task re-assignment permissions until now? Switching to 10.2 M030 soon.

Task re-assignment permissions are still hard coded in 10.2 M020 😞

Very much agree with the need for this! Task reassignment is a critical work management function for our Drafting Team Leaders, and we do not need or want to give them the other elevated permissions that are required to have the ability currently. In our recent deployment, this is one of the top three issues we are working to resolve for the business.

Would definitely be handy.

We have this same business requirement and have customized Windchill to provide this capability.  An out-of-the-box solution would be preferred.

I would say if you vote for this, you might also want to vote for Remove hard coded restrictions from all roles

It's a slightly larger topic, but relates closely to this topic as well.

Is there any news on this topic to grant users permission for reassigning tasks without giving them all the rights of product manager?

We do need that, too! We want to have such a right for our Change Admin 1 / 2 users

Is there any progress on the topic, I believe multiple customers need this functionality to be addressed. Is there any chance that we may get this in near future.

If not, then is there any workaround for it?

Any updates on this topic or functionality? Or any work around available that anyone knows?

Any updates on this topic or functionality? or any work around available? Still waiting on 2020

This is something so basic, why don't we have a solution when the idea was created in 2012?

@ptc - any news ? This is an excellent idea to give more workflow flexibility without giving library manager privileges to too many users.

we are new to Windchill, and this was one of the first user requests for the administration to change...i guess we are still waiting?

We have the same business need. Context manager is a security risk, as a result we must audit all users in that role. This is very time consuming and impractical. We have customized our way out of many of the short falls from PTC but this one needs to be fixed by PTC.

I see it was moved to "Under Consideration" in 2018. I think 4 years should be sufficient.
