Add option to open directly pdf with Chromium embedded browser in Windchill Workgroup Manager

Add option to open directly pdf with Chromium embedded browser in Windchill Workgroup Manager

Following my case C15773590 and the article CS301685 I need to setup Chromium embedded browser in Windchill Workgroup Manager to open pdf with Acrobat Reader without asking where to save.

I can do it with standalone Chrome Edge and Firefox and with embedded or standalone IE (no more supported by microsoft Windows 10).

I need to substitute IE but Chromium has to have at least the same features.

Thanks

Hi, I discovered in the last days that in the last release of Windchill Workgroup Manager 12.1.2.0 was introduced a new property in wgmclient.ini:

open.pdf.document (helpcenter - Article CS372560)

The article describe the opposite situation of my environment, "uwgm pre-12.1.2.0 always opens pdf"

I reopened the case C15773590 to finally understand that in my Windchill I had a property that inverts the behavior:

wt.content.NameFix=true

I putted it in 2017 for this article: CS200112

It was closed in some version of Windchill 11. I have Windchill 12.

I removed the property but some users became to have other issues partially described in these other articles (solved in the opposite way or in Windchill 13 not yet scheduled or uninstalling Adobe Acrobat...):

CS366405 : Error occurred when opening PDF using Adobe Acrobat of Chrome in Windchill PDMLink

CS383476 : Unable to download primary content in Windchill PDMLink 11.1 from Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge browsers

CS330570 : Fails to download PDFs from Chrome Viewer when Windchill PDMLink is configured with an External File Vault

CS274394 : Unable to download the primary content files which have ',' in the file name from Chrome browser in Windchill PDMLink

Anyway my Idea remains valid because I need the same behavior of External Edge or Chrome that well configured open directly pdf with acrobat reader (after an auto-download). I don't want to open pdf directly in the uwgm internal chromium browser.

Hi Nicola,

thanks for your feedback. To my understanding, open PDF in Adobe Acrobat through Chrome requires an extension to be installed in Chrome (Edge seems to be the same). This is not an option for WGM's embedded browser, as we don't want to open up the door for using extension inside it.

BTW - the functionality of WGM 12.1.2 is likely to be available in Creo 10.

Regards,

Ruediger

Hi @Ruediger_Scholz,

I don't want to use plugins. I want to click on pdf and open it in Acrobat Reader.

The browser internally has to download the pdf in temporary folders and it has to open the file with the Windows registered application, in my case Acrobat Reader.

I can easily do it with chrome and Edge (with some settings):

At first download:
