Adding multiple versions of an object to workspace

Adding multiple versions of an object to workspace

Hi,

The objective is to compare two or more versions of drawings for any change at the design level. And to start with this it is important to add the desired object versions to the workspace.

By default, this is not possible. Only one version of the object can be added to workspace at a given time. Even though another object version is added, then this overrides the previous version.

For example, please see the image below. let's say we select two different versions of a same object version -.2 and version 3.2. Adding both these versions to workspace is not possible. Only one can be added.

Now, the requirement here is, no matter how many versions of an object a user selects to add to the workspace, they all should get added without any conflicts or override.

Hi Mohammed,

If you would be the architect, how would you like the software to behave, from the users point of view?

I like your idea, but I can't image a simple and decent way do it.  If they come with a solution that's to difficult for the average user, than there is a risk to introduce more problems then it solves.

This type of compare can be done in creo View. ...

Don't remember if there's this kind of functionnality for comparing 2 version in Catia V5 WGm in 10.2 ...

Agry with Hugo.  Not simple to do this, notably if considering assemblies and drawings (cause configurations)

Another alternative is to copy two versions to the clipboard in Windchill and then from clipboard select both objects to open in Creo view.  You can compare them side by side graphically in Creo view. Works for parts/assemblies also.

Bill, how can this be done in Catia?

Exactly the sam eway. You would be comparing the 'representations' of the objects in CreoView, not the native CAD tool.

You can do it natively in Catia.

There's a new feature in 10.2 WGM, described in WGM Admin Guide.  "comparing Model Iteration"

You can select version or iterations to compare in the history table of Windchill commonspace and launch "compare content"

Catia_Compare1.jpg

It will open the 2 versions in a common Catia session in a CATProduct. You will then able to use the native tools of the DMU Space Analysis Workbench
