currently an admin can create new tabs and share them with ALL users by making them public.
This feature is not available for OOTB tabs. These need to be customized and reloaded.
It would be great if the customize command and set public would be availabl for these tabs as well.
further making them public only for certain groups or profiles would be a nice enhancement as well
Oliver, be sure to vote for your own idea.
Maybe have the Tabs configuration set by Profiles? This idea would go a long way to reducing the information overload experienced by casual (non-Engineering/Design) users. The ability to target the visibility of information by user type (Profile) would allow admins to give users all of what they need and none of what they don't
I love your idea.
It's a great Idea. Just do it everywhere the same... Every single table should be available as "snippet" and should be moved around the different tabs, like the homepage or a custom tab. So no configuration within the actions.xml is necessary.
Profile or Roles?
Does a user needs more information if he has the right to edit the object?
Boston Scientific also has this need to configure or allow an Admin to hide OOTB tabs. We installed UDI but would like to limit who sees the tab. We also created a "Main Info" tab that was more useful to our users than the details tab. We then could not hide the details tab without customization.
Great idea. Thanks for bumping this up Holly!
As Keir mentioned, the information overload for "casual" users is a bit much. I have plenty of users that want two things: to see little/no information that doesn't interest them and to perform searches quickly.
Holly - Did you consider using the details tab with the updates you did on the "Main Info" tab?
that is exactly the issue. you always need to customize the xml since the update via UI is not possible.
But one point is important for the new Business Config Promotion team that if this will be possible this needs to be supported and deployable across different systems
Maybe I'm wrong - but in the very first Pre-release of Windchill 10 - this was possible.
Anyway - would be nice to have this.
It would be a great enhancement, nowadays we would like to set private at least two OOTB tabs.
