Allow Admins to Set View, Search, and Home Page Settings for Users

While it's possible to create/share custom views and saved searches with all users there doesn't appear to be an easy way for Windchill admins to actually set these for their users. Currently users must actively select any custom views and 'show' saved searches to use them.

 

Please add the following functionality:

  • Allow admins to 'show' shared Saved Search for users
  • Allow admins to set default views to custom views and push the new default views to users if they were using a different view. Anyone using on a different view on purpose can easily switch back.
  • If users are using a custom Home Page in Windchill, allow admins to push the customizable 'public' home page to them.
  • Add an easy option for admins to disable the "Welcome" page in Windchill for all users. This screen is pointless. Edit: Easy means no custom code and likely using the Windchill preference manager where an admin can set it for all users.

This would be especially helpful to push default views when setting up views in Parts classification for showing attributes per classification node.  Currently each user has to choose the view created by the admin for each node.

There is a way to disable the "Welcome" page for all users.  I'll let you decided how "easy" it is.

@TomU Great info! But that's definitely NOT easy. I added some more verbiage to clarify what easy means.

Some more thoughts:

  • For several of these options it would be nice to have a one time 'Push to Default Users' and 'Set as Default' which would lock it as the default (similar to SharePoint views).
  • Add multiple tabs on the Windchill Home Page
    • Example - a User Tab, a Company tab, a Reporting Tab, a custom help documentation tab, etc.
    • Allow admins to push these home tabs to users. These pushed tabs should not be users editable.
    • Allow a custom home page tab where admins can add rich text (bullet points, URL links, 2 columns of text, etc) so we can provide users with access to any custom help documentation.
