would be nice to have admin ability define custom icons for every state of object lifecycle.
Users can do fast visual check in the BOM structure/Process Plan that some object is e.g. archived or when specific LC state has been activated.
This is already possible. But you need to write your own icon delegate in java.
That's true, a customization is not allways easy. Since I don't belief that this idea is being realized in the next releases, have you thought about a graphical attribute?

It's not the same, but at least you could show the state as traffic light. This is something which works OOTB and without any customization.
