Allow all fields in Windchill search

Allow all fields in Windchill search

Currently, the columns available for display in the search results of Windchill are limited to a small handful.

The search results is the only area for comparing multiple objects at once, but most fields are unavailable there.

PTC, please allow any field to be displayed in Windchill search results.

If you are searching multiple types of files then only the fields that are common to all of them will display.

Good point.  That's an area that needs to be changed as well.  It would be very easy to just report nothing in a field instead of eliminating it altogether.

I agree

Agreed!  It is very annoying to have to re-search just to eliminate object types so I can see attribute info.

The next Windchill release (11.0) includes a number of advanced search enhancements.

One of these is dynamic result columns. If you perform an advanced search that includes specific attributes under "Criteria," that column will automatically be added to the search results table -- regardless of whether it is compatible with all object types.

For example, I perform the following search:

Type: parts, documents

Criteria: File Name = *c* | Assembly Mode = Separable

The "file name" attribute is only applicable documents; "assembly mode" is only applicable to parts. However, with dynamic columns, the search results table will include a column for each. Screenshot:

Caitlin Wheeless, This looks wonderful!  Can you confirm that this also applies to all custom attributes (IBAs) on EPMDocuments (CAD files)?

Nice!

Custom attributes are definitely supported - but I'll confirm and report back if there are any special restrictions for CAD files.

There are a number of fairly large search enhancements - this is actually probably one of the smaller ones. PartsLink users should be especially pleased.

Confirmed that there are no special restrictions for CAD files.
