Announcement Bar

Announcement Bar

The should be a simple way to make announcements about upcoming maintenaince downtimes or system changes which can be committes.

The best thin would be a bar on top of the screen wich can be hidden by a click of the user.

See http://www.ptc.com/cs/help/windchill_hc/wc102_hc/index.jspx?id=WCCG_UICust_GenericUICust_SysBannerAlert&action=show

If you add a bit of JavaScript with an on click handler to that HTML it will be possible for a user to manipulate the style to be hidden for the whole div. But of course it would be nice if that was just added to the documentation example - or even better as a standard feature.

It would be also good if i would'nt have to restart the methodserver in order to enable the message.

Good point ... but as far as I can remember that's only required for the initial setup - and to diable the feature completely again.

For normal use you just do this (BUT admitted heading styles in the documentation does not help here! - THAT should be fixed):

Removing the alert message from Windchill UI page

Set <Windchill>\codebase\netmarkets\jsp\util\banner.txt as empty file

Thanks a lot -- i missed this -- works like a charm.

As an enhancement i'd request a banner that can be hidden by the user

While it is technically possible for a while to customize the welcome screen and/or the top bar it is not necessary straight forward and require access to the server where Windchill is installed.

I am supporting the idea that this Announcement bar is configurable using GUI when you are a business admin without accessing the server, playing with java etc....

and without restarting any servers (method, background etc....)
