Auto Associate from ProE Workspace (or any 3rd party CAD tool) should allow to choose which WTpart Sub type to create

Auto Associate from ProE Workspace (or any 3rd party CAD tool) should allow to choose which WTpart Sub type to create

As for any WTPart create UI in PDMLink , when creating a new WTPart with Auto Associate in a Workspace, we should be able to choose which sub type of WTPart ...

We can only choose the View, End Item, Configurable ... but not the type ....

If the pre selected type could be customised by a java user exit like for the AutoPartCretor....

In Windchill 10.0 we introduced soft typing of CAD documents.  Part of this implementation includes the ability to map your CAD document soft type to a corresponding WTPart soft type.  During auto-associate this mapping is used for creating a new part.  Here's a link to a best practices presentation that has some information on this feature:

Steve,

I'm aware of these new features , and they are  good ones.

But Windchill should provide both behaviours ...

In our case, we've got a quite large amount of WTPart soft types. And don't want to create as much CADDocs soft types...

And even if we will create some CADDocs subtypes in 10.0 to fit our needs,  we do not have systematic one to one mapping between CAD 2 Part soft types.

Providing this support is currently under consideration for Windchill 11.0.

CAD Data Management: Part Subtype Selection is Now Possible During an Edit Association or Auto Association Action
Product: PTC Windchill PDMLink
Release: 11.0 F000
Benefit
During an Edit Associations or Auto Associate action for a CAD document and a new Windchill part, a default part subtype is now displayed in an Object Type column.
Additional Details
The default part subtype is based on the type of CAD document being associated; however, you can modify the default type and select any part type available for creation. For existing Windchill parts, the Object Type value is read-only.
