Auto Numbering issue: Save a Copy from Creo consumes Oracle sequence

Auto Numbering issue: Save a Copy from Creo consumes Oracle sequence

On behalf of Schneider PDM team. (Guy DUGUE guy.dugue@se.com)

For your information, during the definition phase and based on our experience, the EPM Sequence has been created with one character (C)  + 7 digits, which was supposed to be enough for the entire life of this application.

Two weeks ago, we have created the first C9xxxxxxx document, knowing that only around 3000 documents using auto numbering have been created in the common space.

After some investigation, with the help of PTC Support, we have understood that all those numbers are taken from Creo.

Going deeper in the analysis, we have identified that the Save As Copy from Creo is taking as many numbers as the Assembly is having dependencies, even without doing the Save As itself: there are 3 screenshots attached. Using the the Save As Copy (capture1) it is showing a first popup (capture2), and at this step, only one number is taken. At the second step (capture3) while displaying this popup many numbers (depending on the number of links) have been taken, even if the save as is not done yet.

Our need is to use these numbers only when required.

We discovered the same problem, but it affects more than just save-as.  It also occurs during rename, assembly replace, and assembly new.

Thanks a lot TomU for your quick reply!! Very much appreciated.

I will share this info with my customer.

Did you hear about any plan to enhance this in future releases?
