Auto synchronize files in the Workspace

Auto synchronize files in the Workspace

Having files out of sync causes issues when trying to apply actions on files that need to be synchronized. Since my understanding of synchronizing files has no direct effect on physical data (model changes), then why not having this automatically done for the user versus having them to do this manually every day. This is especially critical for third party CAD users, Solidworks and others, using the WWGM application, who have an additional local folder in Windows that displays their files in the active Workspace. This folder and the local cache for the Workspace do fall out of sync somewhat regularly due to connectivity issues between the CAD tool and the Windchill client app.

At a minimum, it would be great to have Windchill auto sync when launching the application or activating a Workspace.

There are two different things mixed in this post.

  • First of all, if you mean that you saved a CAD document from CAD tool and the file was displayed out of sync at the workspace page, it might be an issue. Whether you can constantly reproduce it or observed it intermittently, please open a PTC Technical Support case, then PTC will investigate the issue.
  • Secondly, I need more details about what data is not synchronized at launching the WWGM client and workspace activation. Today full server workspace synchronization does not happen until triggering a PDM operation with a server or Tool > Synchronize. It is intended to maintain performance for users with a large workspace. There are 3 kinds of cache synchronizations (implicit, background and explicit/full synchronization). For the details, refer to "Refreshing the cache" topic in Windchill Help Center.
