Bi-directional highlighting in PTC Windchill Status Tab in Solidworks

Bi-directional highlighting in PTC Windchill Status Tab in Solidworks

Hello together,

Industry: machine tool industry

My role: IT Consultant PLM

Stakeholders: Mechanical CAD engineers (1.200 Solidworks users)

Version: We're working with WNC 12.0.2 & Solidwork 2020 (end of the year migration to Solidworks 2022).

Problem: For better identification of parts in Solidworks we want to see which part is currently selected. Without this feature the tab has limited functionality especially in large assemblies.

Solution: Having automatic highlighting in both directions - selection of an item in Windchill Status Tab will highlight it in graphic area and selecting items in screen will highlight it in Tab (only if tab is expanded).

Use Case: The user wants to change parts in a large assembly, for this he wants to identify the parts which we need to be changed in the graphic area, because this gives us a better overview of the parts.

As-is: The user needs to find out which CAD documents belongs to components which need to be changed by selecting the parts and using the Solidworks model tree (right click in model tree --> PTC Windchill --> Show Information) to figure out which are the relevant components.

To-be: The user selects the component in the graphic area which need to be changed and sees exactly which Windchill document is selected in the Windchill Status Tab.

Business Value: Less time spend on CAD modification and fewer errors, because we know exactly which Windchill CAD document we need to check out and perform the required changes.

Hello @olivierlp. Thank you.
Is this information sufficient, or is more information needed?

@AH_10045555 The info you brought up is sufficient for me to acknowledge as Community manager. Other users may comment and vote.

However, it is up to product managers to pick up the idea (or not) for implementation. I can't offer any guaranty.
