Create a method of sending system message to all logged in users

Create a method of sending system message to all logged in users

Please consider creating a function that would allow a Windchill Administrator to send a message to all users currently logged into Windchill to inform them of events, such as maintenance or unexpected shutdowns.  The administrator would type a message and hit send, which would trigger a pop-up notifying anyone logged into the Windchill system through a browser of the message.  They would just have an OK button.

The link doesn't work.

Banner is hidden until a refresh (F5).

The popup would be the best!

there is a problem with the wiki software of this page -- just copy and paste it into the browser

I like this idea. Administrators should have simple and easy tools to notify active users and system users about updates, changes and news. I would prefer to have an option for a popup for active users and also an email for all system users.

Once in 9.1 we followed the idea of banner described in Windchill Customizer Guide. Unfortunately secondary windows stood empty at this time. So sending popup is very welcome, email is will not do it.

I like the idea of a predefined set of tools in the Windchill UI that would allow Admins to notify users of various events by various methods.

Types of notifications I can think of off the top of my head:

  1. By email, notify all users of a planned system outage.  The form field could take a few attributes such as Message, Reason, Planned Start Time, and Planned End Time.
  2. By email, notify users that appear to have active sessions of xyz.
  3. By email, notify users that had active sessions/logons/events within a date/time range of xyz.
  4. Via the header bar (sort of like modifying begin_custom.jspf via GUI) with a temporary message that can expire and revert to the original contents either by event (such as Method Server restart) and/or by a predefined date/time range.

Depending on how important it is to you now, you may be able to modify begin_custom.jspf so that it makes asynchronous/ajax calls to the server/something else maybe every minute or thirty seconds (depending on how heavy it is) and updates the DOM with a message if necessary.

It would be nice to have updates on many of these ideas.
