Create e.g a preference so that wcadmin can create a saved search and users does not need to manually show that saved search.

Create e.g. a preference that override the default Windchill behavior so wcadmin can create a saved search and users does not need to manually show that saved search after being created.

Administrators should be able to select what users can see and not vice versa. At least there should be some option to decide on how this should work.

I asked PTC support to link this idea to this article https://support.ptc.com/appserver/cs/view/solution.jsp?source=subscription&n=CS46299

IMHO since I have created a search for all users to make use of, it should show up automatically without having the user perform another operation to enable the search to be seen by them. This seems counterintuitive and unproductive.

Please PTC make it so there is another selection in the creation of the search which allows it to displayed by default or whether the user has to add it using the Show functionality currently in place.

Having this ability to choose default or show, allows the list of Administrator driven searches shown to be manageable.

That should be true of anything in PDMLink.  A similar example are tabs.  If I create it as admin it does show up for all users but I want the ability to make it the first tab for everyone.

Hello Asa,

This functionality can be achieved via the loaders as stated Below in the Article https://support.ptc.com/appserver/cs/view/solution.jsp?n=CS20647

Notes:

  • Searches created by administrators and assigned to a group of which you are a member are hidden by default. For these administrator-created saved searches to display in your Saved Searches drop-down list, you must choose to show them.
  • This ability is only available for users having administrative privileges
  • LoadFromFile could be used as this change is done by updating the preference /com/ptc/windchill/enterprise/search/savedSearchesand  Tags csvPreferenceInstance and csvuser
    • Generate the XML File for Updating Preferences with all targeted users
    • Use LoadFromFile command to load the updated XML

It should be as easy as sharing table views.(checkboxes...not XML customization!)

I would also request that organization admins have this capability to show a search.

Yes Definitely Bill Ryan that's what the level of Configurability even I expected on so common functions like search...But seems it never appered in the prio list of functionalities of PTC..So the suggested work around which we have implemented in our Windchill Instance..

Kamlesh,

In our organization, we differentiate between "configuration" and "customization".  Customization is a bad word and always delays upgrades.  Things like this that obviously benefit the majority of customers should be made a "configure" setting.

Agree to that Bill totally..

We also follow similar approach more to configure less to customize. Hence the need to push more and more for obvious functions like this idea…
