Creo View Adapter for Creo Illustrate

Creo View Adapter for Creo Illustrate

In this moment the unique way to publish a illustrate document is to checkin it with the option "Models and Viewables".

Save doesn't have the option.

No server side publish is available.

Nicola,

as far as I understand you would like to have the possibility to create a new representation, or republish an existing representation of epm documents saved in Windchill by Creo Illustrate.

Here are the possible use cases I can imagine for this capability:

a) the epm document has been created but no representation has been published at creation time, and you would like to create it later

b) the epm document has been created and a representation has been published at creation time, but needs to be republished

In more details:

a) can you explain the value of not creating the representation upon creation? is it just to save space in the vault? What would be other use cases?

b) there are two sub use cases for this:

b1) some component used by the epm document has changed

b2) the illustration source from which the epm document is linked to has changed

But:

b1) Creo Illustrate epm documents do not have sub components like an assembly has parts or a compound dynamic document has components with their own life cycle

b2) in order to make sure that such a republication makes sense, you need to view the content in Creo Illustrate, and possibly make appropriate actions; hence you can publish using Creo Illustrate

This does not mean that there are no more use cases.

Can you please details the ones I'm missing if any?

Working in terms of use cases is more likely to get product management attention.

Thanks,

Alessio

Hello Alessio,

I would like to server side manage all publish jobs, like other Cads.

Your use case are correct.

More in detail:

1) User checkin is very faster without representables.

2) I permit to Publish only the objects in the released state (automatically).

3) Queue management permits to me to set queue priorities.

4) I can republish epm document with different settings in different times. For example now I'm publishing Creo illustrate file in 2D mode (and I have to set all clients to do this). In the future I will publish these files in 3D mode. In this moment the unique way is to configure all the clients and recheckin all the files.

Also Creo Elements / Direct Drafting has only a file (not sub components) but it has an Adapter. It is right.

It is more clear?

Thank you.

Hello, after 7 years I see that something was made for Windchill 11.2, but Windchill 11.2 removed support for Windchill Workgroup Manager in Creo Illustrate and supports only the Direct Link, this is very unuseful for us...In 6.0 not usable, in 6.1 something improved but for now it's very far from WGM... it is a big regression.
