To be able to register a PDM Link server with Creo View to search for viewables and open them.

That is such a good idea. Reverse the mentality of use to be more like creo parametric users. Would be great for pure viewer scenarios.

I would rather like it if we don't need any installed viewer... Just see everything in the browser and search there.
