Creo View adapter for AutoCAD

Creo View adapter for AutoCAD

Currently there is no adapter for AutoCAD.  We have created a generic worker to publish AutoCAD files to PDF.  This worker does not currently have file sync capabilities as many of the other workers do.  We are looking at customizing to allow file sync but are hoping PTC will look at adding this capability in a future release.

We are in exactly the same situation using AutoCAD with the workgroup manager to manage AutoCAD data in Windchill.  Our promotion workflow publishes a PDF when our drawings reach the released state.  Since the approver and approval date are metadata attributes that change AFTER the last file checkin from the WGM, our generic ACAD publisher is not able to show these attributes on the drawing.  In other words, it cannot show the final approval like all our other workers (Creo, Elements Direct, Solidworks, currently with plans for Inventor too) are able to do for the final released version of the PDF viewable.

Since PTC has already implemented the WGM for AutoCAD, I can imagine the scope of work to support a cad agent that can handle publishing with file sync for AutoCAD would be pretty minimal.  Falling back to the PTC standard comment:  "this kind of publisher is not needed because Creo View can open DWG files directly" is pretty lame.  First off, many customers wish to have a PDF viewable that can be loaded on other platforms besides Windows (for example, no Creo View executable for Mac OS).  Second off, correct me if I am wrong, Creo View also does not do file sync either, so the attributes in the DWG will still not be updated when loading into Creo View.

Supporting PDF viewable generation with file sync is necessary and important to continue to build out the use of PTC's PDM footprint in the marketplace.

There is also the issue that Creo view displays all tabs of the native dwg, meaning model space and paper space is seen by the user.  Extra confusing when your drawing says sheet 1 of 1 and the user sees 2 sheets or what looks like an exploded mess.  With a PDF (at least thought AutoCAD) you may configure it to only print the layout tabs which is your drawing.

An official AutoCAD publisher would also be expected to support publish rules.

We have a request to produce PDF and DXF as additional files for Released AutoCAD drawings.  I can build the XML for AutoCAD publish rules, but WVS does not honor it.
