A customer of mine uses on-the-fly checkout to add MFG tools or CAD items not initially added to collectors to Creo models on the fly. This functionality works fine, but these objects are simply dropped in the root folder of the Project. They are using one Project to manage multiple ECO's for the indefinite future, so adding all automatically shared items to the same location creates a huge mess that cannot be easily cleaned up. There is no way to tell which of those items are still in use for a given ECO, and it lacks organization in general.
We suggest that an option or feature be added to Windchill that allows such items to be shared in the same sub-folder or active workspace of a Project, so related items can be kept together, and they don't end up with thousands of tools and CAD objects occupying one place in the project. Would it be possible to use an optional collector for on-the-fly checkouts in order to specify a location to leave them, or add a preference which would default to adding these items to the relevant folder/workspace? Customer is not currently using Windchill 11, so we understand an upgrade will be needed when this comes to fruition; input on possible customization is also welcome.
