The CATIA publishing process currently does an automatic update of the CATIA data. Our view is that the decision to do an update or not should be the sole choice of the designer before checking-in data to Windchill. The created lightweight data will thus be the geometrical view the designer intends to convey. In our case, in-work data is seldom updated while work with constraints is ongoing, whereas released data is of course updated. We therefore need to have the update disabled in the publishing process to have consistency between the stored native and created lightweight representations.
