Reference PTC Case No. 10881984 (ref:_00DA0YLPa._500F0As7Qu:ref). Consultant: Mr. Aseem Sharma,
ABSTRACT: Pro/E should be able to display pre-assigned / selected model parameter value(s) from within MS Windows Explorer and in the ‘file > open’ panel displayed as an internal file explorer in a Creo Parametric session.
BACKGROUND: All prior releases of Pro/E have used the model name which is also the Pro/E file name to reference a part model or sub assembly in further assemblies. This value is also used in the internal file explorer while opening a file. When needed, Pro/E provides the ability to display the file version along with file name and file type in windows explorer or in the internal file explorer panel, (displayed upon invoking
File > open<versions>) to selectively open a Pro/E (versioned) file. However as of the latest release of Creo Parametric 1.0, parameter values cannot be displayed in windows explorer or in the internal file explorer of Pro/E
When examining the contents of a folder in details view and/or when opening a model or assembly in a Pro/E session it would be time effective to view certain parameter values from within windows explorer as well as in Creo’s own internal file explorer system.
IDEA: Most companies use unique part identifiers generated as per company’s internal standard to represent a Pro/E file. Sometimes companies will instead use an extension to include a model name in addition. Example: 123456789_Drlled_Plate. It would be productive in several ways if one could display the model/assembly’s Description as defined in the respective parameter value of the model or assembly. Windows explorer also has inbuilt functionality under the details view option to allow a file property named Description to be displayed. Through modification this value could be utilized by Pro/Engineer to see the value of a parameter such as Model Description in that column.
While model description is considered as a valuable parameter for inclusion in such functionality, there would be several other parameters to be considered for inclusion such as “Modeled by”->Creator and “Creo parametric model version”-> File Version (Windows Explorer).
CLAIMS: By providing parameter value(s) in Windows explorer or in the internal file explorer in a Pro/E session, the Pro/E files can be more readily identified and model parameters recognized more quickly. This is bound to be a productivity improvement since one will be able to differentiate between models without having to physically open the files to view parameters.
