Document Classification?

This idea is a duplicate of above link?

Newbie

No, Document Classification? is just a discussion. These two items should be linked together, but its important for people to vote up the idea. I will cross post to make sure people are aware.

Scott - Is there something scheduled around Document Classification in the Roadmap? Partslink may be dedicated to parts but the idea to classify documents would consist in applying the concepts of PartsLink to the WTDocument Item with a unified way to search objects (parts and docs) ... Business would be very much interested with such features, especially when business users are used to Partslink...

Dear All,

does anyone have an update regarding "Document Classification" by applying the PartsLink capabilities?

1. Is it planned to be implemented?

2. do we have temporary approach or best practice to handle this topic with Windchill?

3. do we have customer references as we could reuse approaches and working methodologies?

We have a customer request where we might need to compete against other external tools.

Many Thanks in Advance for your response.

Regards,

Valentin

Hello,

You seem to work for PTC so I hope you have a higher level of information on this topic.

From our TSAM :

Document Classification is in our future plans but quite low on our priority list (at least no chance in the near future). Sent more information to PM.
[3 Oct 2016] There is quite a bit of R&D work required to enable this feature so we are hoping to be able to fund a design spike in Windchill 11.0 M030 with a view to possibly implementing in the following release. This is not confirmed yet but, if approved, this would be the soonest we could implement.

[23 Nov 2016] The implementation work cannot be done in 11.0_M030. We are planning to work on the design approach during the M030 time frame though

Can an OIR be applied to a Classification?

The release is planned for the upcoming Windchill 11.2.0.0 release.  This work has spanned several releases.  We will be putting some examples here shortly - stay tuned.

I have tested it and it work pretty well. Search is truly better than the one we have with our customization. It will be perfect if we would be able to classify for one attribute on many nodes at a time.

Hi Fabien,

I'm not sure I fully understand what you mean.

Can you elaborate a little and give a use-case please?

Thanks,

Like with the attribute "Produit" (in the screenshot), I need to link 1 attribute to many nodes.

Now, I have to : on the attribute, search the node I will link and then click Ok and re-do the same operation after creating a new instance of a "Produit" attribute linked to another node.

So I would like to be able to select several nodes at the first time and Windchill will create as many instances of "Produit" attribute as necessary.

We would like to create specification documents (MS Word or Excel) that include classifcation attributes imported from Windchill via DTI.

The classification attributes should be shared between the part (WTPart), its specification (WTDocument) and the file content.

Has it been confirmed what release of Windchill this will be on? We are very interested in this functionality, but we're planning an upgrade to the long running release of Windchill 11.1 M020.

@zgodula As noted above this is available with 11.2.0.0.  Look at the example above @fpartarrieu .  We will add some other examples.

The long running release of Windchill with Document Classification will be 12.0.2.0, June 2021...

@fpartarrieu 11.2.1.0 is a long running release as well, but its EOL is not as long as normal long running release due to timing of the Java 8 transition to extended maintenance.
