When creating a new Part, changing the End Item setting will cause other fields (Part Attributes such as Name , Number etc.) to re-set to default values, thus wiping out any previously entered values. Once the part has been created however, the End Item setting can be toggled back and forth (between Yes and No) without changing any Part attributes. Since changing End Item setting on an existing part has no affect on other Part Attributes, the same should be true when changing End Item setting in the New Part Creation dialog.
