The 'Featured Objects List' was added to Windchill to reduce the number of items visible in the workspace to only those the user actually needs to see to do their work. The concept is great but there is one huge flaw - there is no way to unset anything the pre-configured rules determine should be featured.
Windchill automatically sets the featured state of certain objects in the workspace. Objects automatically set to the featured state by Windchill have:
This is especially frustrating since the documentation makes it seem like this should be possible:
"You can manually set the featured state of objects in the table as desired by selecting objects and using the workspace Edit menu options to set or unset the featured state." (emphasis mine)
This is not true if you are trying to unset the state of objects that were already pre-selected by the rules above. I'm definitely not able to manually set the featured state of these objects "as desired".
Imagine a workspace with 2000 new objects in it. Since they're all new, Windchill marks all of them as featured items. If I only want to see 50 of them while working on a particular sub-assembly, why can't I un-set all of the rest? It seems like this would work great, but since the pre-selected objects can't be unset, the functionality is useless (in this case.)
Please allow ANY object to be set or un-set as a featured item, regardless of what the automatic rule might have pre-selected.
