From CAD tool (Open from Windchill) search should work as it does in Windchill

In order to work completely in the CAD tool, need to be able to locate models in Windchill no matter which container they are in and be able to wildcard in case they don't remember the exact name.  Currently Open from Windchill works if you know the model name, you can put it in the Filename and it will find it  and open it no matter where it is in Windchill (assuming you have the proper privs). The search option, however, will only search in the currently open folder so if the engineer doesn't know the exact name OR the exact folder, they will need to run the search from WGM but our engineers want to do all their work from the CAD tool.

Sounds like you may be "searching" after already accessing a folder.  If you use Search directly rather than browsing folders, the desired functionality should be fully available.

You mention WGM.. what CAD tool are you using? Assuming it's not Creo

We actually are using multiple CAD tools, NX is the main one but we also have SolidWorks, Inventor and Creo but also looking at adding Catia next year.

When I do Open from Windchill and put the Number in the Search box, nothing comes back.  If I put the actual filename in the filename box at the bottom, it finds it and loads it right away so works like you suggested but the Search box doesn't appear to do so.
