Hide attributes with no value from properties page (WC10)

EDIT: This is possible in WC10, see comments below by customers, they know more than PTC!

In the past attributes without values were not shown on the properties page (Windchill 9.1).

Now, all attributes are shown, regardless of their values (Windchill 10.1) - this is on both EPMDocuments and associated WTParts.

This results in a cluttered screen for most parts which do not require these attributes.

We should enable a site preference to hide blank attributes to improve clarity of properties.

PTC say it's a concept change 9 to 10, it seems like a step backwards (more info below).

PTC Response:

This is a concept change. As from Windchill 10.0 attributes added in the Type and Attribute manager are automatically added to certain layouts. So the attributes will appear in the layout"s related UI.

This is working to specification for Windchill 10.0 and 10.1. You can of course remove the attributes from the layouts but then they will be invisible for all documents. It will no longer be dependent on whether the attribute is filled or empty.

If you want to hide some specific attributes for specific users, you can use User Profiles.

May be not a site pref, but a constraint for each attribute.

Cause from my point of view, we should use layouts to hide not needed attributes

But if the attibute is in a layout , and even if not filled or blank, it should be displayed.

Cause, notably for users how just read or review informations. It is interesting to see that an attribute exists but not filled ...

Same debate for value list constraint. for me,  "blank" is different than "no value"

with blank, we can't know if the value is blank or if it is just not filled or forget

with no value, we can know that a user explicitly set "no value"

Hi Gregory, that's a valid point, sometimes you would wish to see every attribute whether filled or blank.

However, in our case, for general everyday use I'd rather not see 15 blank attributes, only the 2 with useful values.

In 10 you can hide attributes without values in the layout itself. Just go to the Type and Attribute Management and select the Layout.
