Homogeneous CAD-Templates

Homogeneous CAD-Templates

PDMLink provides the possiblity to create Creo Templates in the organisation. Unfortunatly it does'nt provide any possiblities to set Creo to pull these templates.

  • If I create a Creo Document thru the Workspace the user can choose which template he wants to use. These templates are organized in the organisation. (It's also possible to organize them in a product or library, but all these templates are being copied for each context. If a change occures, all templates of all context must be changed)
  • If I create a new document in Creo, the templates are mostly local or checked in to a library. There I have the possibility to set some config.pro variables
    • template_solidpart
    • template_drawing
    • etc.

If I have the templates in the organization I'm not able to set variable like start_model_dir.

The drawing frames have to be checked in to a library.

PTC changed the way new CAD documents are created for all 3rd party CAD systems. They put the new CAD-Document command into the Windchill ribbons. So new CAD-Documents can be created in the CAD-System with the PDMLink Wizard.

The best solution for Creo would be, if all templates (including frames, sheet stamps, etc.) can be saved in the organisation and a user gets the Windchill wizard also from File->New.

So please add the possiblity to switch the File->New Dialog in Creo to use the Windchill Wizard. With this possiblity the users also have to fillout the required attributes. It would help to organize all the different templates to one system.

And please add multilanguage supprt to the wtpub pathes:

German: wtpub://pdmlink/Bibliotheken/Templates/CAD-Documents/Frames

English: wtpub://pdmlink/Libraries/Templates/CAD-Documents/Frames

If a user switch the language, not all pathes must be updated in the config.pro.

Thanks

definitely yes !

And stop semantic discussion about number, name, model name, common name , etc .... !

Are there any improvements in Creo 3?

Asbolutely need this.  One of the biggest challenges is how to handle the creation of specific CAD sub-types or attributes (part family) that traditionally drive the name and number field.  If you use File>New, which is a must for many people, you get the old school "new cad document window".  You can't build any intelligence in, or set requred fields, or select specific soft types etc etc etc.  These features are absolutely required in advanced and semi-advanced environments.  We very much so need the option to launch a robust, windchill controlled, "New CAD Document Wizard" when you select "File>New" directly in Creo.  I'd even be somewhat happy just being able to disable the "File>New" option as then I could at least force users to use the menu in Windchill.

100% YES

Quite annoying bug, but PTC says it is a feature.

Absolutely important. In Replicated environements (Italy, Brasil...) it is not possible to control the Browsers language, so you have to define multiple config-pro's for each site, without a guarantee that this will work.

I did a work around for this PTC - "feature" by forcing the user's language settings to "English".

During Creo's startup a *.reg is loaded to local machine's registry:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\International]

@=""

"CNum_CpCache"=dword:00000001

"CpCache"=hex:e9,fd,00,00

"AcceptLanguage"="en-GB,de-DE;q=0.5"

‌this idea is still open for voting, so it looks like PTC will provide the "New CAD Document" dialog in Creo 4 but doesn't implement all the other requested features...

It should be definitely solved, because from time to time this issues occurs again and frustrate the users.

@JoshuaHouser,

PTC rarely comments on product ideas.  Frankly, I doubt they even read most of them.  (There are more than 3000 product ideas just for Windchill.)  You're much better off contacting the appropriate product manager and trying to make your case in person.  I'm guessing very few product ideas ever make it into production without someone personally advocating for the idea directly with one or more of the product managers.

Product ideas don't drive change, relationships do.
