Implement CreoView inside web browsers

Implement CreoView inside web browsers

Hola,

cancel CreoView as stand alone application and implement it into web browsers.

We don't want to install CW on every client station so would be nice to just use browsers.

Gracias

I wouldn't say completely stop the standalone CreoView, however a lightweight, browser only version that can be used to create markups etc would be useful for the "occasional" users who participate in workflow and need to see/comment on things but aren't using the advanced features.  Kind of like how it shows in Thingworx.

Remember that there are some features in Creo View might not be practical for browsers.  Creating animation sequences, Massive Assembly tools etc, exporting CAD files.

This is definitely needed.

Can you clarify the version this is idea is based on and a comparison between the capabilities in the full CV client as compared to the existing browser plug-in?

When we moved to WC 11.1, I was excited to see the browser plug-in working on Windows and Mac. It provides basic visualization and works well. It would be interesting to know what capabilities from CV client you'd like to see here.

Hello Scott, havent seen plugin so if exists let me know pls. Running on WCH 11.1 M020 atm.

My idea was to move all CV functions into every supported web browser. Can imagine clicking on WCH detail page vizualization will open a new window directly inside my browser instead of running standalone CV app forcing me to login again etc. The same behavior when opening Creo data from HDD (just run web browser). Point is to avoid repeating logins and installing CV.

I am on the same version. The new plugin loads on the visualization tab of the structure page for all modern browsers. If you have Creoview installed locally, Internet Explorer will give you the old plugin with more tools and functions. I disabled the old IE plugin in our implementation so there is no confusion between IE and other browsers. Everyone gets the same capability and must open Creoview for more tools and functions.

@PetrP The secondary login isn't because it is a standalone application.  To the best of my knowledge, it is for data security.  It is to ensure that the person who is opening in CreoView is the logged in user.  It keeps someone from being able to use their own credentials to access things they are not supposed to if they happened to use someone else's logged in session.  You may not see value in this, however it is an important security feature for most industries.

@ScottMorris I think the value would be to have a browser-based "lite" version of CreoView where you could do markups and measuring in models and drawings (no structure mods, no save as, no animation) etc.   Most of our CV users are doing limited work, and need to be able to Review Windchill items.  How would you feel about installing "Windchill" on every user's machine?  Having no web version, it forces a lot of overhead for companies when you have to upgrade CV, especially if most are not using advanced CV functionality.

@jbailey Yes, 100% behind the idea of a browser based solution that does not require a local installation. I don't push install Creoview outside Engineering, which leaves many people w/o a solution to view data. In most cases, they assume there is no way to view it and go back to the engineers to ask about it. Would be nice if we could rename this idea and its description to cover all the great suggestions people have added in the discussion.

We currently have the challenge, that MAC Clients will be supported by the IT, but Creo View is not supported under MAC OS.

This solution will probably help to solve the issue.

Interesting that this 3 year old topic still hasn't got more visibility / traction.

There was some discussion about this concept at the last PTC/USER event.  I'm sure it's coming, but PTC probably won't respond here until they're ready to release a new product that does this.
