In ECAD WGM 10.2 M020 when creating new ECAD design the templates are copied and not referenced. Is there anyway to reference the template to the new ecad project?

In our ECAD deployment, the design engineers does the following process to create new ECAD project in PDMLink.

1)      Add Template to WGM Workspace

2)      Save As or Clone the SCH & PCB template objects for new project objects   (the templates will have hooks ect)

3)      Start the design from scratch or import the existing project and modify

4)      Close Mentor,  Generate Data in WGM

5)      Upload and check-in

The issue with above process is the templates are copied and not referenced in new project. So if there are any changes in template, for eg: addition of hook to the template, then it won’t reflect in old design.

Even though we checkout the old design and recheckin the changes are not reflected.

So we want the template to be referenced while creating new ECAD project. So that any changes in template are carried forward.

In the below image , the template has the hook referenced. So when we add new hooks to the template the older projects created using template will not have these new hooks.

How do we make the older projects to carry forward these changes?ECAD_Template.png

Tania,

you may vote for your idea.

If it's not an idea you have to start a discussion.

Hi,

We do have future plans to enable an ECAD template functionality that will allow the template to change and affect both existing and new designs that use it.

Thanks,

Mark
