Intuitive Connection to Replica in Proximity Irrespective Of Preferred Cache Content

Considering that User has a selected a preference to a particular Replica site, Windchill should be able to handle the preference intuitively showing the user all replicas in proximity.

Scenario:

When user has a set preference and he is traveling to another geographical region, he should be asked by Windchill to connect to Replica in proximity for that region.

Replica site preferences should be handled by Windchill using IP based recognition. Please eradicate the manual system.

The only problem I see with this, is that if a company uses the internal IP ranges - 10.x.x.x, 192.x.x.x, 172.x.x.x, there is no way to really say this IP is in this location, or in that location.  You would need to have a way to detail locations - just like the ability in PSM to detail geographic locations for IP ranges.

You have a point. Not sure what are different ways to accomodate this, however I sense a great need of this functionality.

We have a similar need in SE.

Basically, all cloud systems and cloud application manage this transparently for the user today, so should be standard and easy to implement.

Expected behavior:

- When started and connected to a WC server, the WGM tests infrastructure (Replicas) and sets the best performing Replica system as "Preferred system for Vaulting and Replication"

- The Replica MethodServer test infrastructure (Replicas) at startup and sets the best Proximity list hierarchy.

If anything, we should have the option to do it automatically by the system or manually set by the administrator, just in case someone want "more control" on the behaviors.
