Is it possible to allow installing Windchill components into the same directory under the directory "Windchill_<Version>"?

Currently it will get the "Validation Failed" error if install Windchill components into the same directory under the directory "Windchill_<Version>".

For example, try to install Windchill PartsLink Server 10.0 into the directory "Windchill 10.0" will get the following error:

Base load point directory /opt/ptc/Windchill_10.0/PSI already exists. Choose another directory that does not already contain an installation. *Base Installation Directory:

Many of the customers want to install Windchill components into the same directory in Windchill_<Version>. So is it possible to allow installing Windchill components into the same directory under the directory "Windchill_<Version>"?

It looks like when we made a fix for one problem, we created another.  It does not cause any runtime problems, but some people find it annoying.   We are considering options for a change that will give you back the old behavior.

In the mean time, if you are starting with fresh installations, I think you can workaround the problem by setting the base installation directory for each of the installations.  So if you wanted to put PDMLink and PartsLink Server in the same directory, set the base directories like this:

PDMLink:                /opt/ptc/Windchill_10.0/PDMLink

PartsLink Server:      /opt/ptc/Windchill_10.0/PartsLink

If you do that, then the two installation will be peers under Windchill_10.0.
