Iteration history for Project Plan using ProjectLink

Iteration history for Project Plan using ProjectLink

Hello

Correct me if I am wrong but many project starts with a plan well thought but nonetheless the plan has to change (new activities are needed, or some are removed etc...).

In some cases it may be needed to be able to see how the project plan has changed during the progress of the project. There could be various reason for it (Quality Assurance, Retrieve old part of the project, knowing why this has changed).

As there is an iteration created automatically when an object is checked in, I would find useful that once the project has started, any change in the project plan (I am not talking about changes in the progress where the % increases etc....) should lead to an new iteration of the project plan.

What do you think ?

Best regards

This is a great idea, but I'm curious to get your thoughts around project baselines? Baselines could be managed in Windchill and exported to Microsoft Project allowing better analysis of the project execution. Personally, I would rather have the ability to capture baselines during the course of the plan rather than save iterations along the way.

There is a Plan History feature implemented in Windchill 10.0 I believe, allowing you to see the details of the change history of an individual plan item.

Hi Scott

I am glad you like the idea but you have not yet voted up the idea

Using MS Project is a work around but imply you have MS Project. In addition, this requires to use yet another software while this should be part of the original package. I am not use PJL 10 or 10.1. I saw 1hr webcast about it and apart of the face lift, it did not seem to have much differences with 9.1 and I therefore assume that 10 will not have the ability to iterate the project plan. If it turns to be true then my idea is an old one.... nevermind but glad to know it is in 10

Regarding the baseline, my thoughts are that it is a good idea but I would not use baseline just for the project plan but for the entire project (discussions, documents, team etc.... etc...) therefore making the baseline "heavier" if you know what I mean.

Have you submitted this idea ? If so I will vote it up !!!!
