Keep selected objects when changing the table filter

Keep selected objects when changing the table filter

Since the UI of Windchill changed in Windchill 10, the action "Search in table" is not available any more.

Instead there is the new filter function, which displays in a table view only those objects, which have the filter string in one of the displayed columns.

The old "Search in table" function allowed to do several searches on the same table, allowed to select the found objects, then search for a different string, select the next set of found objects and so on. So a user could set up a list of selected objects from several different search actions for further operations, e.g. "New promotion request".

With the new filter function this is not possible any more.

As soon as a second filter is applied to the table, a message pops up saying "If you continue, you will lose your current row selection. Continue to search in list?".

We would like very much that Windchill would keep the selection of objects, even if a user changes the filter.

This would be greatly appreciated as there is often the requirement to collect objects from one table matching different filter strings for the creation of a promotion request, or for moving, or to add them to a workspace etc...

Johannes,

Which table are you referring to?  The example video I am posting here is the product folder.  This is Windchill 10.2 M020.

I have experienced the issue you are referring to.  However, I have only experienced it if there are more than 2000 objects in the table, and you click on the Next link to get the next list of 2000 objects.  When navigating away from the 1-2000 set of results to the 2001-4000 set of results, then selections will be lost.

Hi Ben,

thanks a lot for the quick response. That's awesome.

That is exactly what I was looking for, but I didn't know that this was implemented in 10.2 M020.

We are still on 10.1 M040 and I opened a case about this at PTC TS. The answer was "no plans to fix" and a hint to try to create a product idea, which I did.

I also created a video based on 10.1 M040 and you can clearly see the difference.

Video Link : 5730

But it's good to know that it is solved in 10.2.

Great!

Thanks a lot

Best regards

Johannes
