Make Workgroup Manager More Robust

Today you have to have the same Windchill build of the Workgroup manager (WGM) installed to be able to use it. It would be nice if it was more robust so that they could have independent versions. That way you only have to update for functionality. Creo WGM operates on a wide range of Windchill builds, why can't the separate WGM act the same?

For our situation, our users cannot just install/uninstall something anytime they want to, they require a process to get Elevated Privileges. This requires management approval, IT approval and action. I imagine most other government and contractors have similar protocols in place. So it requires a lot of effort to use WGM and keep Windchill updated with the latest patches. In the end it just doesn't get used as much. The same as Desktop Integration.

On the workgroup manager side this is already planned for Windchill 11.0 (due out in December). Starting with that version WGM installation will be separate from Windchill just like Creo is. You will be able to upgrade WGM versions without changing Windchill versions, and likewise change Windchill versions without changing WGM versions (within the compatibility matrix of course.) This also will eliminate the need to reinstall the WGM after every Windchill critical patch set installation.

I believe DTI is already capable of automatically updating itself any time Windchill is updated...

DTI doesn't automatically update.

At the moment if you install a CPS you have to manually download setup for DTI and reinstall it.

We had install 10.2 M030 CPS05 but without updating DTI (it works the same with a warning).
