Need better monitoring and status visibility for CAD users during Windchill background processes

During Windchill transaction from either the CAD tool of the Workspace tool, it is very common for background processes to make either tool "hang" and aside for the occasional showing of the spinning icon in the middle of the screen, the user does not know if the application is frozen indefinitely or temporarily. This has become much more of a use case with a lot of engineers working from home these days due to COVID-19 as home network is not as reliable nor performant than an in-business network connection.

We would like to see some better analysis and notification by the tool on what it is doing and what it is getting stuck on so the user can make better decision on either having to wait or kill the applications and their related processes.

I think you nailed it here. A general complaint of the users is that the UWGM is doing something, but they don't know what. They can not decide if they should wait 5 seconds, 10 minutes and grab a coffee, of kill it.

is also related to this.

If you monitor the network traffic, CPU and Memory usage, they could already indicate if he stalled or not. If non of the parameters is changing over time, he hangs. Otherwise, he's doing something. It would be better to know what, but a first dashboard with these 3 parameters would be a step in the right direction.

Today a user can navigate the Event Manager where it will show whether a process is still running.  There are some discussions considering enhancing/modernizing this area in the future.

That would be good.  a common complaint by our trigger happy and impatient users 🙂
