Need more OOTB ways to obtain the workflow notification template activity attributes.

Need more OOTB ways to obtain the workflow notification template activity attributes.

We need more OOTB ways to obtain the workflow notification template activity attributes other than just these
•activityAttributes (This method shall be used in body only)(This method is a block of attributes that cannot be altered.)
•activityNotificationUrl (This method shall be used in body only)
•getDeadline
•addText text="<value>"
•getActivityName
•getActivityVariable varName="<Variable Name>" (not applicable for Notification Robot)
•getInitSubject
•getPrimaryBusinessObjectName
•getProcessName
•getProcessVariable varName="< Variable Name >"
, adding activity variables to every activity in every workflow we use, adding e-mail and expression robots to every workflow we use, or sub-classing custom HTML template processors.

Overall I think there are a lot of improvements that could be made to the notification emails when a user receives a workflow task.  The notifications for workflow tasks should offer a far greater amount of configuration by the business administrator.

Couple of thoughts:

  • Ability to customize email subject.  For example, add a common prefix such as "Windchill Task:".  This way users could more easily filter their Windchill tasks into a subfolder in their mailbox.  In today's environment, the subject is the workflow task name ... so many different email subjects for the various tasks a user gets.
  • Ability to customize the body.  So the admin can remove the extra attributes at the bottom, like context creator, context description, etc.
  • Configure the first sentence in the email.  Right now it says "You have been assigned a <taskname>."  Poor grammar.  You'd think PTC would at least add the word "task" at the end of that sentence.  Such as: "You have been assigned a <taskname> task."

Comments from other approvers would be wonderful.  This would be handy in "Rework" or "Rejection" situations.  I have had to create special comment boxes which then pass the variables into the instructions part of the task.
