OOTB Parameter capturing "Release Date" from Windchill to add to CAD Drawing Title Block

OOTB Parameter capturing "Release Date" from Windchill to add to CAD Drawing Title Block

Currently there is no out of the box (OOTB) functionality to automatically publish the release date captured in Windchill (date in which an object moves to the released life cycle state) into a Creo Parameter on the Drawing Title Block.

There are ways to do this with customization inside an expression robot on a workflow template and then messing with the Publisher setup but this seems like a common request that should be handled OOTB similar to how Revision is handled with the "&ptc_wm_revision" syntax.

I also understand that not every customer uses the life cycle state "Released," so there should be a property setting or a preference to define what the "final" life cycle state is which would trigger the date capture.

People constantly ask for this and there is a basic need for almost all businesses.

But - It's a lot like taping up a box and then slipping inside the box a record of someone inspecting the tape that sealed the box closed (one checks in the CAD data and then iterates it to show that it was approved).

Watermarking is applied to the published image and is dynamic with current Windchill attributes (e.g. state) and so solves this basic problem.  But, watermarking has never been developed to be able to pull info such as approvals and this might be of great value to all.

Efforts to put approval info, etc. in a drawing cover sheet have been applied quite a bit over time.  These sort of address the issue.  One problem is keeping the cover sheet with the drawing when the drawing for example says sheet 3 of 3 and the cover sheet is not counted.  The cover sheet has the advantage of being dynamically generated with current Windchill attributes and can pull from much deeper (e.g. approval in a workflow).

I finally gave up on this and convinced my organization to simply remove this information from the drawing. We now have a statement that says to check PDM for the record.

mlockwood-2: Watermarking and subsequent setup is expensive, arguably more expensive than a one time customization.  I want this to be part of OOTB PDMLink functionality with no need for watermarking or customization or manual data entry onto the drawing title block.

Chris3: definitely a valid solution but - tough political sell to customers that are entrenched in their ways.  Might be hard to convince people to operate this way but it would for sure be worth the conversation before going down the watermarking and/or customization path.

We had some solutionarchitects here on site at start of Windchill (~2010) for nearly the same toppic and we were told it is not possible to get this attributes ootb. We have to use promotionrequests and catch users data with some customization. these attributes are also transmitted to frame of drawing and it is updated automatically. By actions like "new version" or "save as" this fields are cleared and filled with "-" or a date in the future like 31.12.2999

Hallo,

Here is a tech support article describing some what similar use case.

CS284434

With this server side delegate approach, any custom attribute can be displayed in Creo attribute list of EPMDocument and can be used in adding them to title block.

Main issue that needs to be addressed is performance as this delegate is triggered for all CAD documents in workspace each time the workspace is refreshed. So it is important to get all required attribute values from shortest possible navigation from CAD Document.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the suggestion.  I reviewed this article before posting to the idea board.  "Release Date" is not an available attribute to be used with the method detailed.  SO the article is not applicable for this particular ask.  I know there are ways to do this with customization, but again the custom approach is less than desirable.
