Permission, to download a CADDocument without the Permission to read it!

Permission, to download a CADDocument without the Permission to read it!

Today, the Windchill Access Rights "Read" and "Download" are combined, so, if you can't search for a CADDocument in Windchill, you also can't download it to Creo.

From a security perspective, this may make sense, but for a other Business Cases, it is a Handicap:

Imagine Components with the Lifecycle State "Obsolete". In our Company, this are old Objects, and the users are not allowed, to assemble such objects in NEW Assemblies. BUT THEY MUST BE DOWNLOADABLE, if the user is opening existing assemblies where this objects are assembled in.

So, because of this coupled rights, we are unable to hide such obsolete Objects from the users eyes....

Please change this in the way, that "Read" and "Download" are completely separate rights in the Policy Administrator.

Thank you!

The way we approach this is to rename those obsolete parts, mostly commodity parts, by adding *_OutOfUse or simply *_OOU.

This way it's clear for our designers that they have to search for an alternative, but existing assemblies aren't modified.  We considered to block the release of assemblies containing OOU's, but never implemented this.

Another way that would really help would be if an admin could assign colors to states...so when a user searches for an object and a list comes up he can quickly see there are objects that should not be considered for new assemblies...not sure how to handle this in Creo, but a popup message could me made as a reminder.
