Product structure: Open Document in Creo View

The command in the product structure view to open up a WTDocument in Creo View tries to open the default file in Creo View. This leads most of the time to errors because the main file is not always a type which can be opened directly in Creo View e.g. docx, pptx, etc. The command "Open in Creo View" should actually opens the visualization rather than the primary file.

The answer from the technical support is "Works as expected for Windchill PDMLink 11.0" (Also for 10.2) . I belief this is actually wrong to open up a new product idea because this command is already there, just the behavior is wrong.

Yes they are. The document has a default representation attached.

For me it's an error, but for PTC is this a feature... 

PTC has confirmed this behavior:

Right-mouse > Open in > Open in Creo View for a WTDocument that's shown in the Part Structure tab views the WTDoc Primary or Secondary Content instead of the default PDF Representation

Yes, I'm aware of this case. But this is not the problem. The problem is, that this particulary command tries to open the main file and not the visualization in Creo View. So this command tries to open the word file in Creo View and not the converted PDF...

This is not the issue.  Look at the file name.  Windchill is passing the primary file instead of the default representation.  "Open in Creo View" should always be opening the default representation, not trying to open (or convert) the native object (except maybe in the case of "dummy" publishing.)

Additionally opening the primary content instead of the associated viewable representation is problematic. We utilize extensive usage of Watermarking and Stamps within our viewable representation. If the user opens the content instead then they may bypass this information with potential compliance implications.
