you can start a promotion request in the workspace by using the right mouse button on a wtpart, but this is not possible on a cad object. To start a promotion for a cad object, you need to go to the details, then open the commonspace version, actions, new promotion request ..... Not very user friendly.
You can also perform a set state in the workspace, but it's not possible to start a new promotion request by selecting multiple objects.Customers who recently migrated from pro/intralink surely miss an easy way to promote objects.
